Thousands of Dead Salmon Found in Prince Edward Island Rivers
This E-wire press release discusses how the Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) wants the Canadian government to intervene and enforce legislation aimed at protecting the fish from dying as the result of agricultural runoff. The population is already in trouble after Prince Edward Island’s only hatchery lost its funding in 2005.
“Todd Dupuis, ASF’s Director of Regional Programs, made these comments after thousands of dead fish were found from the Tryon and Dunk rivers earlier this week. The Dunk River, PEI’s largest river, is a major sport-fishing river and home to a population of Atlantic salmon. Juvenile salmon were among the dead fish recovered from that river.”
