Registration Begins for Corporate E-Waste Day
(VICTORIA, TEXAS) Registration is underway for the Corporate E-Waste Day scheduled for Friday, April 18, 2008. The City of Victoria Environmental Services and Solid Waste/Recycling Departments will conduct its 4th corporate e-waste event at the Victoria Community Center North Street parking area on the east side of the complex. The event is free and will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On-line registration for local businesses is required to participate in this event at www.victoriatx.org/environmental/recycling/erecycling.asp.
All businesses including governmental entities, nonprofit organizations and schools are encouraged to participate. The deadline to register is April 11, 2008. No late registrations will be accepted.
E-waste materials include computers, keyboards, computer monitors, hard drives, laptops, mainframe computer systems, desktop printers, fax machines, scanners, VCRs, cameras, copiers, cell phones, televisions and other peripherals. No console televisions will be accepted. On-line pre-registration serves as a tool to calculate the number of trucks needed to haul the e-waste and the number of staff persons needed to process e-waste at the event.
Households with e-waste will be able to participate in Household Hazardous Waste Day on April 19, 2008. No household e-waste will be accepted on April 18. Electronic waste, or “e-waste”, is the fastest-growing segment of municipal solid waste with more than 2 million tons of electronic waste buried in landfills each year. Some e-waste contains hazardous materials that can harm the environment if disposed improperly.
