Part of the Great American Cleanup, Kentucky had more than 8,350 people participants in 2007. Last year’s results:

  • 13,343 bags of trash picked up along 1,882 miles of roadway
  • 44 dumps cleaned up
  • Proper disposal of 458 appliances and 30,360 tires

Nonprofit groups that registers to volunteer with a Kentucky solid waste coordinator could win one of three $500 cash prizes. More information is available at the Kentucky Division of Solid Management site.

Commonwealth Cleanup Week started in 1998 when the Kentucky General Assembly designated the fourth week in March as an opportunity for Kentuckians to participate in “activities that highlight the natural beauty of their communities.”

A great way to clean up your community is by Earth 911’s recycling locator to find a location, event or program near you.
