Earth911.com and Green Market Fundraising Partner to Educate on Proper CFL Disposal
Scottsdale, AZ—partnership with Earth911.com, visitors can now learn how and where to properly dispose of their compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to continue helping the environment.
Earth911.com will be providing its national database of over 2,300 searchable CFL recycling locations and events throughout the United States to Green Market Fundraising’s site, as well as content on the proper way to dispose of CFLs.
CFLs have gained popularity because of their energy-efficiency, long life and savings on energy bills. However, each CFL contains about five milligrams of mercury, which can contaminate soil and water if the bulbs are landfilled.

It’s great that Earth911 is working on getting the message out. There are so many places that accept CFLs for recycling these days, doing it is incredibly convenient. But there are still an enormous number of people who don’t realize the damage of putting a CFL into a landfill (mercury seepage), and as such don’t make the effort.
I’m glad to see Earth911 sharing its info in the effort to educate more people on this important issue.
