Company Collective Good Helps on All Sides

A growing number of companies today are offering cell phone recycling programs.

It’s about as win-win as it gets with the company Collective Good.

Win 1: Instead of throwing out old cell phones, consumers send them to Collective Good. The company “pays” the consumer by donating to a charity selected by the consumer.

Win 2: Collective Good’s staff then refurbishes the phones so they can be sold to people in developing countries for an affordable price.

The company offers consumers “a socially and environmentally responsible means of disposing of their old mobile phones,” while “charities generate newfound funds to further their missions, and we all take steps to bridge the digital divide by providing affordable modern communications to citizens in the developing world,” according to the Web site.

The company also accepts pagers and PDAs, which are handheld computers.

For local cell phone recycling options, use Earth 911’s recycling locator.
