California-based Site Recycles Wine Corks
Ever finished off a bottle of cabernet, placed the recycling at several locations.
The drop-off locations have been organized by ReCork America, a program created by a Portuguese wine company that creates over a quarter of the world’s wine corks. Recycled cork can be used in flooring, ping pong tables and insulation manufacturing.
In addition to collecting corks at drop-off locations, several restaurants, wineries and retailers are providing corks for recycling. Already over 300,000 have been collected.
There’s no word yet on whether the plan will expand nationally. In the meantime, make sure you’re recycling wine bottles; use Earth 911’s recycling locator to find wine bottle recycling locations near you.
