Cash-Strapped Towns Get Money From Recycling
Western Massachusetts towns have boosted their recycling efforts in order to earn revenue and save on trash disposal fees, reports the South Coast Today.
In 2007, 78 cities and towns raked in 1.7 million dollars through recycling. Also, trash disposal costs were cut by 3.3 million dollars.
The town of Fairhaven is hosting a meeting July 21 to increase citizen awareness of the financial and environmental benefits of residential and business recycling. Various speakers, including a health agent and an employee of the Environmental Protection Agency, will lead the discussion.
