Cash Incentives Get Recyclers In Motion In Eugene
The Eugene Water and Electric Board (EWEB) in Oregon is giving a $30 cash incentive to citizens willing to recycle old, inefficient refrigerators and freezers, reports KVAL.com.
“Many people don’t realize how much energy their older appliances are using,” EWEB Energy Specialist, Colleen Wedin, told KVAL. “By recycling rarely-used second refrigerators or older units that have been replaced with new, energy efficient models, customers can save energy, reduce their electric bills and also benefit the environment.”
The program goal is to recycle 1,500 units, which would result in 1.3 million kilowatt hours of energy savings.
EWEB’s project partner is JACO Environmental, a regional appliance recycling company. Pickup of the old unit is free, and can be scheduled by contacting JACO at (866) 444-8907 or www.jacoinc.net.
