Los Angeles To Recycle Food Waste
The Los Angeles City Council approved Tuesday a pilot program for recycling food waste, reports The Los Angeles Times.
The experiment will begin next month by giving 5,000 households a 2-gallon kitchen pail for table scraps. It is to be filled with leftovers such as coffee grounds, bones and tea bags. Food-soiled packaging, such as pizza boxes, will also be welcomed.
After collecting a variety of scraps, the idea is to empty the pail into the household’s 60-gallon green yard waste bin. The yard and food waste will be collected and made into compost.
Several areas in California have similar programs, especially in the San Fransisco Bay area.
