San Francisco Donates 276 Recycling Bins to Houston

It was recently reported that Houston has a recycling rate of just 2.6 percent, with part of the reason being that 25,000 residents are waiting for recycling bins. The city of San Francisco has offered a solution, raising over $1,700 for the city to purchase 276 recycling bins.

The city of Houston was originally hesitant to accept the donation because the group that raised the money organizes progressive reading series during election years. The city wanted to make sure that this donation was in no way endorsing a political candidate.

The fundraiser brought in almost 200 people. The original commitment was for $1,250, according to the letter sent to Houston’s mayor Bill White.
