University of Wisconsin Athletics To Pump Up Recycling
The University of Wisconsin Athletics Department has committed to improve its recycling practices on game days and throughout the year.
A new program will be launched at Saturday’s football game against Akron. Nearly 100 student volunteers will be lining the stands encouraging fans to recycle their plastic bottles in the new blue stadium recycle bins.
Volunteers hope to make a difference at the seven home games scheduled this year.
Recycling is only part of the athletic department’s green initiative. An advisory group has been established to help evaluate its current practices and make recommendations for reducing the environmental impact of UW athletic events. The advisory group, which will be led by Ben Miller, Associate Dean of the UW College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, will draw upon campus and community expertise in the areas of conservation, energy use and environmental sustainability.
