Michigan’s DTE Energy Music Theatre Going Green

The DTE Enery Music Theatre in Clarkson, Mich. reached two milestones in its green journey, reports mLive.com.

For the past two months, the venue participated in DTE Energy’s GreenCurrents renewable energy program, displacing more than 170,000 pounds of carbon dioxide. DTE’s renewable energy comes from wind and biomass such as wood, municipal solid waste and alcohol fuels.

Another milestone was recently surpassed as the program recorded 1.5 tons of recycled materials for the season. The recycled paper, plastic and glass saved an equivalent of 36 trees; 10,000 gallons of water; 3.68 barrels of oil and 10,875 kilowatt hours of energy.

Recycling is happening both around the venue and backstage. Even the concessions stands sort and recycle their plastic, paper, cardboard and glass.

The theatre also installed compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and donates prepared and perishable food to a local charity.
