University of Oklahoma Students on the Green Team
A voluntary crew at the University of Oklahoma is hoping to inspire football game attendees to recycle their The Norman Transcript.
During home games, thousand of water bottles and other beverage containers are tossed in trash cans or on the ground. Recycling bins have been placed next to regular trash cans throughout the stadium in hopes to divert the plastic from landfills.
About a dozen students meandered through the stadium at the last home game, reminding fans to use the new bins. Their blue recycling shirts made them easy to spot in the “sea of red.”
The initiative comes from the university’s athletic department with encouragement from Tabitha Brown, the recycling coordinator for the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality.
