Program Raises Funds, Awareness Through Cell Phone Recycling

ECO-CELL recently partnered with STAND to raise funds and awareness for the crisis in Darfur.  Proceeds will be donated to the Save Darfur Coalition, STAND and Tents of Hope.

Collections for cell phones, batteries and accessories, regardless of age or condition, will be setup nationwide through various high school and college STAND groups.

Once donated, ECO-CELL auctions the donated cell phones, paying back up to $15 per phone to the donating organization.  Any cell phones, batteries or accessories that are deemed to have no value are recycled through environmentally responsible organizations.  ECO-CELL also carries a no-landfill policy, meaning that none of the donated items will be sent to landfills.

Beyond preventing toxic substances from entering the environment through landfills, these collections will also help the people of Darfur gain valuable resources.  According to ECO-CELL, $25 purchases three donkey plows for three displaced families, $50 purchases three blankets for a displaced family and $100 purchases a treadle pump for a kitchen garden.

ECO-CELL, an environmentally focused cell phone recycling and fund raising company, works with various organizations across the country to raise money for charitable causes.  STAND, a national student activist organization working to prevent genocide, will be raising money for Tents of Hope, a Darfur awareness program.
