Kettle Foods’ Facility Saves Green
After opening a LEED Gold Certified food manufacturing facility over one year ago, Kettle Foods has seen a significant reduction in energy costs and waste output.
Through its water reclamation system, the facility reused 3.4 million gallons of water. The factory also recycles 2,300 gallons of waste oil monthly, which is used to power Kettle Foods’ diesel-engine BioBettle cars, after being converted to biodiesel.
On average, the factory reduced its energy consumption by 20 percent, saving over $160,000 in natural gas and electricity.
The company also saved 3 million pounds of carbon emissions annually by eliminating shipping lines between Oregon and the Midwest. It also works to reduce carbon emissions by purchasing wind power offsets for 100 percent of the electricity used to operate its Salem and Beloit factories.
