Connecticut Town Bans Plastic Bags
Plastic bag debris has recently been addressed in large U.S. cities including New York, Phoenix and San Francisco, but the latest plastic bag legislation comes from a Connecticut city with just over 25,000 residents.
Westport, Conn., passed a plastic bag ban that will take effect in six months. It will affect bags dispensed at checkout counters in retail stores in the community, who will face a $150 fine for any violation.
Dry cleaning bags will not be affected; nor will paper bags, although the city will be encouraging residents to bring their own grocery bags.
