Call2Recycle Recycling Leadership Winners Announced

Call2Recycle®, a comprehensive rechargeable battery and cell phone recycling program administered by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), recently announced the winners of the 2008 Recycling Leadership Awards.  Recognized for their exceptional efforts in rechargeable battery and cell phone recycling, the recipients are:

  • King County Solid Waste Division (Wash.)
  • Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (Canada)
  • Washington County Household Hazardous Waste Program (Minn.)
  • Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (Pa.)
  • Fort Hood, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division (Texas)
  • Florida Division of Blind Services Bureau of Braille and Talking Books Library Services
Both Essex-Windsor and King County won the national division of the award.

“Year over year, the amount of rechargeable batteries collected through our Call2Recycle® program has increased,” said Linda Gabor, director of marketing and media relations of RBRC.

Call2Recycle® collects old cell phones and rechargeable batteries from products such as cell phones, digital cameras, laptops and PDAs.  There are more than 50,000 collection sites throughout the U.S. and Canada, where these items can be recycled through the RBRC.
