Dell & Staples Partner in National Computer Recycling Program

Starting today, consumers can now drop off any Dell branded computers, printers, monitors or accessories for free recycling at any of Staples’ 1,500 U.S. stores.

The program is one of the largest ongoing computer recycling programs in the country, and customers are not required to make any purchases to take advantage of it.

Staples and Dell are working with Eco International to handle the recycling of the computers and equipment. Per this agreement, the export of waste and the landfilling of any environmentally sensitive materials are prohibited.

“It’s clear that the key to making consumer electronics recycling efforts work lies in making programs affordable and convenient, as well as raising consumer awareness about recycling,” said David Daoud, research manager for IDC. “The Dell and Staples effort is a very compelling manufacturer-retailer recycling partnership and is a substantial step forward in increasing the number of computers recovered for responsible recycling in the United States.”

Customers can also take advantage of free recycling of cell phones and smaller electronics at Staples, as well as the recycling of larger office technology and non-Dell branded computers for a small fee. Ink and toner cartridges can be returned to the store for $3 back in Staples Rewards.

The partnership with Staples is another Dell recycling initiative, along with its Reconnect partnership with Goodwill Industries.
