Denver LeafDrop Program Available Throughout Fall Season
For citizens seeking a way to dispose of their fall leaves, Denver Recycles has begun its annual LeafDrop Program, which allows participants to divert material from the landfill and contribute to next spring’s compost.
If possible, residents are encouraged to use the leaves for their own compost. Also, a lawn mower can be used to mulch small amounts into the lawn, adding nutrients and helping the soil retain moisture. If neither of these are an option, the city will happily accept and compost the leaves.
Residents can close the loop and reclaim their leaves in the form of rich compost in the spring at Denver Recycles’ annual Treecycle Mulch Giveaway and LeafDrop Compost Sale.
Leaves may be dropped off during the week (no weekends or holidays) from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m until December 5 at either of the following sites:
- Havana Nursery – 10450 Smith Road, just south of I-70 on Havana
- Denver Solid Waste Transfer Station – 7301 E Jewell Ave. (Quebec St. & Cherry Creek
South Dr.)
Make the drop-off even greener by transporting the leaves in paper yard debris bags instead of plastic trash bags. The paper bags can be purchased and most home improvement and department stores and they may be composted with the leaves.
