That's amazing and I am very thankful for that. I can not believe you can recycle PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS, so you must know about DU-depleted uranium and radiation poisoning??? How can you recycle poison? Can you cure infected personnel? TALK TO ME

Like Monica, Tim, you should do more homework. There is absolutely nothing in the statement that says that it's a closed landfill. It really isn't clear what they're saying. It could be that with the recycling there is less need for landfills, so although the land was set aside for a landfill, they were able to make it into a wildlife habitat instead. Or, it could be as you state. I must say that I interpreted it as the former, but now I don't know either. However, without additional information, I think we need to reserve judgment.

Monica, you apparently don't know what Chapter 11 bankruptcy means. It means the company is reorganizing their debt so that they can stay in business. I'm sure that the website, which is "temporarily suspended," not out of operation, is suspended until they get their debt reorganized and get it open again. If we've got a company that's doing good things for the environment, I think it's a little irresponsible to claim that they are out of business, when you have absolutely no facts to back up that statement!

Like Monica I wish the reporter had done more homework. For instance the section on Styrofoam says bacteria may be the key to recycle it. Without an efficient and effective method or methods to collect and transport Styrofoam to the places with bacteria it doesn't matter what the little organisms are capable of doing.

Later on the story says that a waste company "has transformed 21,000 acres of land set aside for landfills into wildlife habitat." Not really. The capped areas of landfills can't be built on so the company plants things on top of the closed landfill and calls it "wildlife habitat." Sounds like greenwashing to me.

It doesn’t look like the “Earth First Technologies” company claimed to be processing tires in Alabama is still in business. The website doesn’t work: www.earthfirsttech.com and a Business Week summary of Earth First Technologies concludes with this:

“On June 13, 2008, EarthFirst Technologies Incorporated, along with its affiliates, filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa.” Source: http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/snapshot/snapshot_article.asp?symbol=EFTI

Please don't put up junk information. It's a waste of everyone's time.

The the tires are burned at one third of the temperature needed for pyrolysis ?
This means it works at 200 C and it's not a clear statement.
Could you find the temp the system works at?

My company has adopted a continuous pyrolysis system operating around 300 C since 2008 producing oil/CB/Steel with capacity of 20 Meteric Tons perday.

Speaking of recycling electronics, Gazelle.com is a great website that offers money for your old electronics. The website is offers a fast and easy solution to reduce the e-waste stream. I have already used them a couple of times to cash in on some out-dated electronics (cell phones/PDAs) that have been just sitting around in my closet. I don't see why more people aren't taking advantage of these services. It's a no-brainer Check it out! Gazelle.com
