Twitter Followers Pledge to Make Every Day Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day 2009, Earth911 asked its readers and Twitter followers to make their own Earth Day Pledge to do something better for the environment. Here are some highlights from our Twitter pledges:

DBLTREEBurlVT: I pledge to recycle at work by reusing recycled paper for all printing and electronic transmission as much as possible!

Ohheysara: I pledge to reduce my household waste by using green bags and not buying plastic bottles.

BoscosBiscuits: I pledge to recycle at work by urging customers to bring in more used pet toys for animal rescues.

Grwrn: I pledge to recycle at work by starting [an] aluminum can recycling bin.

HLFL: I pledge to reduce my household waste by recycling like I already do and to reuse what I can’t recycle!

Angelalalaw: I pledge to reduce my household waste by buying only what I need.

EarthAwareness: I pledge to reduce my household waste by not buying anymore paper towels or paper plates – sounds simple but will be a challenge.

Sdoca08: I pledge to reduce my household waste by buying only what I need. Not 3 boxes cause it’s cheaper and will be out-of-date before use.

Ms_Melissa_Sue: I pledge to start composting by May 15. Costco has some great composting bins to start with.

Littleyellow: I pledge to reduce my household waste by not buying wrapped foods if there is an unwrapped option.

Tonyash: I pledge to reduce my household waste by making informed, conscious purchases and by buying less and reusing more

Marija68: I pledge to reduce my household waste by reusing old bottles for vases, or remembering to use my reusable bag at the store.

CandiRSX: I pledge to reduce my household waste by using a tumbler instead of the paper cups at #starbucks

Morebalanced: I pledge to start vermicomposting again by the end of this summer.

ColinStorm: I pledge to reduce my household waste by using cloth napkins and rags instead of paper towels.

You can make every day Earth Day by making a pledge. Simply follow Earth911 on Twitter, tweet your pledge to @Earth911 and watch it grow! You can also post a photo of your Earth Day activities via Flickr. If you want the photo to appear on Earth911.com, simply tag your photo with “earthdaypledge.”

Happy Earth Day, everybody. I celebrated by walking to work the past two days.

It’s great to see all the Twitter pledges. So far I’ve kept my green pledges this year (unlike my New Year’s resolution). I like Sdoca08’s pledge to buy only what you need.
