Google Nixes Trash Cans
Google is furthering its green efforts at its London office by removing all trash cans from individual employee desks. Now, instead of tossing away trash without thought, employees will have to make an effort to throw away their garbage, encouraging recycling materials and reducing waste.
According to MNN, this small step costs the Internet giant nothing and contributed to the 50 percent recycling rate at the company. The move is just one of several green initiatives Google has taken to reduce its overall carbon footprint. In addition to the trash can removal, the company has also taken a three-step approach to becoming carbon neutral.
According to Going Green at Google, the company is increasing the energy efficiency of its own operations, focusing on a goal of making electricity from renewable sources cheaper than from coal through its RE<C initiative.
