Unless you’re cruising the water with an oar in your hand, your boat probably has a battery to provide power. Did you know that even sailboats with no motor most likely have a battery system?
What you may not know is marine batteries are the same design as the battery in your lead” and acid weren’t scary enough by themselves, understand that lead-acid batteries are toxic and contain potentially toxic and flammable ingredients.
Your boat’s battery may last two years or 20, but it will eventually need to be replaced. When you buy a new battery, ask if the vendor accepts old batteries for recycling. If it doesn’t and you live in California or Washington, you can use Earth911 to find out where to drop-off your old battery.
