The Chevrolet Volt has gotten a lot of attention; it was awarded 2011 North American Car of the Year before it was even available to the public. But not all of the attention has been good.
The Volt’s $41,000 sticker price puts the General Motors flagship electric vehicle out of reach for many consumers.
Don’t lose hope, EV faithful. It’s now rumored that GM is thinking about producing a scaled-down Volt model. While this means a reduction in battery range from as much as 50 miles to just 20 miles, it also means that GM can sell the car at a much lower price – possibly $10,000 lower, which could open up the market and get more Americans in the EV driver’s seat.
