Text books are heavy, cumbersome, and use a lot of paper to create. Additionally text books typically stay in circulation for only a couple years before an updated version is printed in its place. Check with your book store to see if your textbooks are offered in an E-Book format to cut down on the amount of paper used by publishers. Often times these versions will be a cheaper alternative to hardcopies of books. Some universities have even begun renting tablets for students to use in place of the many heavy and expensive physical copies of text books.
