The Life School Parent Teacher Organization is challenging the entire school to Go Green this Spring. The Go Green Earth Day event focuses on reusable energy, recycling and our participation in the Cartridge Recycling program and Capri Sun collection programs.

STAGE 1 of our Go Green Event is a Display My Art project. The Fine Art teachers have been hard at work having students create beautiful works of arts on the theme “Spring into a Greener Future".

STAGE 2 of the Go Green Event is a BATTLE OF THE CAMPUSES. The challenge is to see which campus can collect the most Capri Sun pouches and items for the Recycling program (see list in box). The competition starts March 21, 2011 and ends on April 22, 2011 (Earth Day). The winner will be announced on May 1st. The campus who collects the most recycled items on the list will receive all the moneys raised for pre-selected campus improvement. Special containers will be placed on each campus.

STAGE 3 is a Dads Challenge. The elementary children and their fathers, granddads, uncles, older brothers, male role models are challenged to Go Fly a Kite! by helping students design and build kites using recycled and reused materials. The kites must fly. The secondary campuses are challenged to Go Float Your Boat by helping students to design and build boats using recycled and reused materials. All entries must be brought to the school on Friday, April 22, 2011. Judging will take place in conjunction with the STEPPING INTO MANHOOD RETREAT on Saturday, April 30, 2011.

To help each household to also Go Green, we will also have Going Green information packets for parents and students with information on subjects such as weatherization, recycling, clean energy, tax incentives, etc.

Sponsorships are always welcome and we would love to have businesses and other organizations join in our recycling challenge. Contact Jacqueline Bell at lsocpto@yahoo.com
