How are you celebrating Earth Day? You could spend it in the great outdoors (all national parks are free this weekend), or by supporting an eco-friendly company. If you need a little inspiration, we’ve compiled activities all across the country, plus listings of what various companies are doing, to help you honor Mother Earth. (All events are on Saturday, April 22, unless otherwise noted.)
Earth Day at the Gardens
At the Birmingham Botanical Gardens from 10 to 4, celebrate the legacy of Dr. George Washington Carver. Exhibitor booths, local vendors, free activities and live music included.
Earth Day Fun
At the Eagle River Nature Center in Eagle River, junior naturalists 6 and up can learn about recycling and make fun crafts that involve taking care of the earth.
Earth Day at the Phoenix Zoo
At the Phoenix Zoo, earn a stamp in your passport by visiting Earth Station Destinations on water conservation, energy conservation, reducing, reusing, recycling and nontoxic cleaning. Fill your passport and get a prize. There will be a recycling station curbside for clothing and accessories, bedding, and books.
Earth Day Celebration at Pinnacle Mountain State Park
Celebrate Earth Day with programs dedicated to helping you discover how to keep Pinnacle Mountain State Park a healthy and happy place for all. The schedule features eco-friendly ideas and a tree-planting ceremony.
Earth Day in Whittier
The Earth Day in Whittier event at the Greenleaf Grassy Lot will allow visitors to learn more about environmental issues and find out what each of us can do to help save a livable planet for our children, grandchildren, and beyond. This year’s event will focus on what cities are doing to “go green” and what we as individuals can do to conserve, reduce, reuse, and recycle in our everyday life. Exhibitor booths will offer information on alternative energy sources, recycling, electric and hybrid autos, water conservation, air pollution, responsible development, land use, and other related areas of interest.
For every guest room occupied on Earth Day, San Francisco’s Stanford Court will donate $1 to the National Forest Foundation to plant one tree. Every guest who checks in on Earth Day will receive a packet of wildflower seeds to plant at home.
Earth Day Denver
On April 21 at Skyline Park, check out sustainability-related resources. Exhibitors range from Tesla to Chicken Coops of Colorado.
Connect to the Earth!
On April 21 at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, explore specimens from the collections that are rarely on display, and learn about the beetles, birds, and botanical bounty that share our planet home.
Earth Day Experience
Healing meets the elements at this multi-sensory Earth Day Experience at the Delaware Center for Conscious Living, which will last about two hours with eight different healers. Tickets are $25.
Central Florida Earth Day
Presented by Vegetarians of Central Florida, this Orlando event includes speakers, food preparation demonstrations, environmental education and more.
The Nature Conservancy’s Moonlight Through the Pines
At the Promenade at Piedmont Park on April 21, this 23rd annual Earth Day celebration will feature live music from the Bradley Cole Smith Band, gourmet cuisine by Dennis Dean, the opportunity to learn from Nature Conservancy scientists, and the chance to meet and engage with environmental leaders in the community.

Idaho Falls Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day Indiana Festival

Earth Day Trash Bash
Earth Day Trash Bash is Iowa’s largest volunteer Earth Day effort. The educational theme this year is environmental and climate literacy. On April 21, volunteers will learn how to improve the environment by creating a more sustainable community, growing food locally, building rain gardens, harvesting rain water, recycling, improving habitat, protecting watersheds, reducing our carbon footprint and more.

Wildflower Nature Walk
Celebrate Earth Day at the Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills with a naturalist-led hike around Irvine’s trails. Visit a forest, a stream and meadows in search of critters large and small, with a special stop in the Woodland Garden to see spring wildflowers. All ages.
Earth Day Festival
At UMass Amherst, celebrate Earth Day on April 21 with more than 30 campus and community groups showcasing what they’re doing to make the community more environmentally, economically and socially just. Includes the first-ever Green Commute Day to encourage faculty, staff and students to try an alternative to driving to campus alone.
Earth Day City/River Cleanup Hike
Starting at Fjallraven in Ann Arbor, this hike will proceed through downtown, passing through Kerrytown and over the Broadway Bridge, down to the Huron River and around the nature trail loop, heading back to Fjallraven. Gloves and bags to pick up trash along the way will be provided. The clean-up hike should take about two hours total. Afterward, there will be food from Arbor Brewing Company, coffee from Roos Roast, and special offers and giveaways on Fjallraven gear.
MI Earth Day Fest
From April 21 to 23, this high-profile community event in Rochester highlights the efforts of area businesses and community organizations to make Earth Day matter. Drive-and-drop recycling is available.
Test-drive an all-electric vehicle, check out a tiny solar house, grab a free reusable thermal tote, recycle old sports equipment and more at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Earth Day Celebration
At the Pascagoula River Audubon Center in Moss Point, activities include face painting, gardening (including a take-home project!), making recycled tin can bird feeders, kayaking, scavenger hunting and more.
St. Louis Earth Day
A two-day event this year for the first time (April 22 and 23), St. Louis Earth Day features yoga classes all day for both adults and children, a rock climbing wall, a pet adoption area and many more activities for “children” of all ages.
Flathead Valley Earth Day Celebration
At Whitefish Middle School, this free festival features a wide variety of booths hosted by local conservation groups and businesses. Each booth provides a hands-on activity or craft focused on one of four Earth Day pillars: Grow It, Fix It, Save It and Live It. An e-waste truck will be available for recycling electronics.
Sarpy County Earth Day Celebration & Expo
This free indoor event on April 30 at BPS Lied Activity Center includes electronics collection, an educational speaker series and a “trashion show.”
Pedals for the Planet at XCYCLE
This Las Vegas cycling studio will celebrate Earth Day by donating $2 of profits made from any XCYCLE “Not Vodka” water bottle purchase from April 20 to 23. Proceeds will be donated to Green Our Planet nonprofit. The event is free for members and first-time riders. Individual rides are priced at $23.
Earth Day Celebration at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire
Kids can get their hands dirty while learning about the earth at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire. Activities include planting marigolds with Wentworth Greenhouses and watching a solar bicycle demonstration with ReVision Energy. Free tree saplings donated by Bartlett Tree Experts.
Earth Day Event at Bayshore Waterfront Park
Celebrate the shore as you discover coastal animals like whales, sea turtles, fish, crabs and even tiny plankton during this interactive touch-and-tell program. Tours will also be given of the historic Seabrook-Wilson House, which dates back to the early 1700s.

Four Days of Learning and Exploration
Visit the BioPark in Albuquerque from April 19 to 22, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for rich learning experiences that explore how our actions matter to plants, animals and the ecosystem, both in our own backyard and around the world. Earth Day activities (including lectures, workshops and demonstrations) are free with admission.
Las Cruces Earth Day Fair
The Earth Day Fair at the Plaza de Las Cruces is a free day filled with live music and dance, a recycle fashion show, kids’ and teen activities, local foods, educational booths, tree adoptions, and presentations from local scientists and environmentalists. The zero-waste event will have compost/recycling centers for food scraps, paper and plastic staffed by friendly volunteers. Food vendors will serve local treats on biodegradable plates ready for compost.

Street Tree Identification for Beginners
Take a class through the Brooklyn Brainery to identify trees by the details: bark, buds, leaves and tree form. Class will start with an overview of identification terminology and practice outside in the field. The Earth Day stroll is through Carroll Gardens.
Durham Earth Day Festival
Durham’s Earth Day Festival will be held, rain or shine, at Durham Central Park on Sunday, April 23. Participants will enjoy green activities and demos; learn about many green practices and products at the Sustainability Expo and Earth Day Market; and enjoy great music, food and much more!
The #EarthGirlsFestival outdoor music event in Greensboro aims to inspire self-love and appreciation for free-spirited women, raise vibrations/awareness of the Earth, and promote overall wellness. Activities include live music, vendors, visual art displays, live painting, inspirational speakers, dance performances and more.
Earth Day Kid’s Festival
The Salvage Station in Asheville is hosting the Earth Day Kid’s Festival. You can expect games, face painting, interactive music, stilt walkers and more. Admission is free.
On Wednesday, April 19, search for some slimy amphibians with Park Ranger Kevin Bischof in Lake James State Park. Meet at the Holly Discovery Trail parking area and come prepared to journey through woodlands, seeps, streams and pools.
Bismarck Earth Day Festival
The Bismarck Earth Day Festival will be held on Thursday, April 20. This free family event includes hands-on learning activities for all ages with earth-friendly giveaways and door prizes. Concessions will be available for purchase.
Earth Day Pick-up Party, Frog Release & Meal
Celebrate Earth Day with The Fargo Project at World Garden Commons at Rabanus Park by picking up trash and learning about the ecological effects of introducing a population into the basin. Creative peacemaking and natural resource management will also be covered. This event is free; however, reservations are required.
Earth Day STEMboree
Join Gateway to Science in Bismarck for this free family event. Learn more about scientific phenomena on Earth as well as ways to take good care of our home planet. Topics include the inside of our planet, engineering for earthquakes, the greenhouse effect and our atmosphere, and composting.
Earth Day Columbus
This outdoor celebration happens rain or shine at Columbus Commons downtown with local music, family-friendly activities, eco-friendly artisans and Columbus’ best food trucks. The afterparty is at Brothers Drake Meadery. Twenty percent of mead sales from 8 p.m. until close will be donated to Green Columbus.

Earth Day at the Oregon Garden
At Oregon Garden in Silverton, Marquam Hill Ranch Alpacas will join for a meet-and-greet. Plus face painting, make your own reusable bag, drive an electric car, and learn the tricks of the trade from master composters. Admission is free.
Illahe Annual Earth Day & Spring Release Event
Illahe Vineyards, a multi-generational winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley that focuses on low-impact and natural winemaking, will be celebrating Earth Day by hosting a tasting at their winery. They will be pouring their newly released 2016 Viognier, 2016 Tempranillo Rosé, 2015 Estate Grüner Veltliner, 2015 Estate Pinot Gris and 2015 Bon Sauvage Pinot Noir. Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival

Nashville’s Earth Day festival features exhibits and hands-on activities aimed at educating Nashvillians about protecting our environment and living green. There’s free bike valet parking and opportunities to recycle.
E-waste Recycling Event
All 10 Snappy Salads locations in the DFW area are hosting a free e-waste recycling event. Anything with an on/off switch, including computers, cell phones, televisions, lamps, calculators, small appliances and batteries, may be dropped off.
Earth Day Texas
From April 21 to 23 at Fair Park, join the world’s largest Earth Day event. Launching this year, EarthxFilm will showcase films and emerging media that explore conservation, climate change and the environment.

On April 23 in Rock Creek, celebrate with author Elise Mosser, who wrote about Millie Zantow, a Sauk County local who helped create the recycling standards we have today. The Sauk County Art Association is also sponsoring Encore!!Art — where others see trash, artists see an opportunity to reassemble and repurpose. There will be hikes, a presentation on living off the grid and activities for kids.
