Ed Begley Jr. is one of the earth’s most ardent and outspoken environmentalists, and today he is recognized as much for his advocacy as he is for his roles on such television shows as St. Elsewhere, Providence and Arrested Development.
With the debut of his new web series On Begley Street, the actor/director once again leads the way in teaching environmental principles with his trademark brand of quirkiness. His new series picks up where the hit series Living with Ed left off. That show, which debuted on HGTV in 2007 and later moved to the Planet Green network, followed the adventures of Begley and his wife, Rachelle Carson-Begley, as he tried reducing his carbon footprint — often to her chagrin.
On Begley Street follows the undoubtedly nerve-wracking process as the Begleys and their 12-year-old daughter, Hayden, attempt to build their home to meet LEED Platinum Certified standards and become North America’s greenest, most sustainable home. Like all good television shows, this one offers conflict (at one point, Begley says to his wife that a divorce would be cheaper than the remodeling), humor and heartfelt moments.
But what makes On Begley Street stand out is its ability to also spotlight environmental issues and show viewers how to live more sustainable lives. As with his previous show, expect to see some entertaining cameos from high-profile Hollywood friends who will undoubtedly (and sometimes unwillingly) be pulled into Begley’s mission.
A treat for both the DIYer and the reality show buff, this environmentally themed show debuts Sunday, Sept. 15, on evox television. To learn more about the Begleys or the program, visit www.onbegleystreet.com or watch a promo for the show.
