L’Oreal’s Garnier brand is one of the first companies to take on the problem of personal care packaging, which accounts for up to one-third of all landfill waste.
Terracycle will collect the waste and process it to become eco-friendly playgrounds around the U.S.
The idea behind the Personal Care and Beauty Brigade is to recruit new members who will educate community members; in exchange for participation, for every unit of waste collected, Garnier will donate two cents to the member’s charity of choice.
“Through the ambitious effort of having the Personal Care and Beauty Brigade, we look forward to making an impact on the amount of beauty and cosmetic packaging that is thrown away each year,” says Tom Szaky, TerraCycle CEO in a press release.
Garnier debuted a biodegradable shampoo and conditioner called Pure Clean in March to help solidify and celebrate the new sustainability partnership.
