Land Resources
The State of Alabama is truly blessed with an abundance and variety of land resources. The following list of sites will help provide useful information on Alabama’s land resources.
Forestry
- Alabama Forestry Commission—The Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) provides information about forestry issues designed to Protect the Forests from all harmful agents, to Service and Help Landowners to carry out responsible forest management on their property, and to Educate the General Public about the value of our forests in insuring both a healthy economy and environment. This site links to nine sections including a search option. The sections are forest management, fire management, forestry weather, on-line publications, AFC directory, forestry links, information about AFC, educational and search option.
- Alabama Forestry Association—The Alabama Forestry Association (AFA) is dedicated to the protection and proper management of Alabama’s valuable timber resources. Our association helps protect the forestry industry through the education of the general public about forestry concerns, by keeping foresters up to date on the newest discoveries in forestry management and by promoting forestry-friendly laws in the legislature.
Alabama Land Uses
The following Web sites provide information and links to land use issues dealing with concerns about agriculture, urban and environmental environments, Brownfields, Greenways, Urban Sprawl, and similar land use issues.
- Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources—The Department encompasses the Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
- Alabama Land Resources Information Center—The Centers mission is to promote the use of geo-spatial technologies and geographically based information to better manage Alabama’s natural resources and minimize undesirable economic, social and environmental impacts. The site offers links to additional Web sites dealing with land use and education.
- Natural Resource Conservation Service—The Web site is national in scope but contains information that is useful for those interested in diverse land use and conservation issues. Mission: To provide leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, improve, and sustain our natural resources and environment Vision: Harmony between people and the land.
