Barry! On Earth911.com’s homepage you can search for recycling or reuse locations by town or zipcode. I suggest a search for “Construction Materials” or “Household Item”. You may need to increase the range of you search. With the drop-down you can search up to 100 miles. Another option might be contacting local charities and non-profit organizations regarding donation.
Best of luck with your search and thanks for taking the time to recycle!

Everyone throws away household batteries in the trash. I do not. I have many 9 Volt, AAA, AA, Camera, and rechargeable household appliance batteries, to dispose of. Being 76 yrs. old and on a Very limited income; I cannot afford the recycle boxes. What is my recourse?

Marjorie I have the same problem.
Can anyone post some useful information on how to get started when you want to recycle all your household items; Example: Plastics, mixed paper, news paper, cardboard, glass and misc household items that we otherwise toss into the garbage.
I would like to know how to set up a system that my family can easily use on a daily basis so I can sort the materials in order to get it to a drop off location.
I think we all would love to do our part to help the environment but during these hard economic times can’t afford to pay a monthly charge for those recycle bins.
Help us all help get a little greener.

I am looking for a place to recycle old and used sneakers. These would be unwearable sneakers. I was wondering if anyone would know where to go?

Does anyone recycle or dispose of old video cassettes? Is there anything harmful in them (besides some bad acting)? We live in Fort Myers, Lee County. Thanks.

Does anybody know of anyplace that recycles used or scrap PVC pipe in central Florida? The landfill doesn’t seem to want it and it last forever laying around.
Answers to a couple previous posts. I live in Lake Co and we have regular recycle pick up on the same day as trash pick up. Check with your local counties to see if they will also pick up items like the old batteries, plastic, papers, bottles, etc. Many counties are now providing recycle bins to put those items in for pick up.
Our local libray has what they call “Friends of the Library” and they except all books and such in reasonable condition and then they resell them for 5 or 10 cents each to raise money for library extras the county doesn’t pay for. Maybe your local library would be interested in the encyclopedias in the same manner.

I read about a desire to recycle used or scrap pvc piping. We’re having a health fair in Sept. and need 3/4″ pvc piping in good condition to make stands to hold vinyl panels on them. It was recommended that we use 3/4″ schedule 40 thick wall pvc piping. We need (36) 10′ pieces as well as (32) 90o Angle 3/4′, (64) T-pieces 3/4″, (64) End caps 3/4″. Whatever we can get would be helpful. Please email me with the particulars.
