Land
Georgia’s solid waste management changed dramatically in the 1990s and continues to evolve. Recycling and waste reduction efforts have increased, while unsafe disposal of waste has declined significantly. However, at the same time, the amount of waste Georgians send to landfills annually has increased. This section contains information on how you can take action and participate in improving the way Georgia manages its Solid and Household Hazardous Waste.

Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste (HHW) is a product which is discarded from a home or a similar source that is either ignitable, corrosive, reactive, or toxic (e.g., used motor oil, oil-based paint, auto batteries, gasoline, and pesticides). It is estimated that 37,000 tons of Georgia’s municipal solid waste disposed of per year is household hazardous waste. For information about the proper disposal of HHW in Georgia, check out the Guide to Best Management Practices on the P2AD Web site.
