We have a home toxics drop-off center in our county and get dozens of gasoline and antifreeze containers. We're trying to figure out where to recycle the containers since normal recycling plants don't take them due to the gas/antifreeze residue on the inside of the container. Please help! (email= goldbergc@ewashtenaw.org). Thanks!

Hi Carroll - Just type in "CFL" in the green box at the top of the story and your zip code, and we'll tell you any retail drop-off locations or mail-back programs you can utilize. It's great you want to recycle them, as mercury pollution prevention is a must! Thanks

ask a behavioral health counselor near you....I work with kids who DO NOT have the money to have laptops, computers, internet access, kindles, etc. but love reading and research. Maybe ask at an agency like Catholic Social Services, or Lutheran Child and Family Services. Need to find someone willing to cart the books to a drop-off/pick-up point, but it worked for my encyclopedia.

I'm about to throw my old freezer along the side of the road. I called Michigan DEQ, my city garbage hauler, waste management, checked the internet, and called a couple of HVAC businesses to try to get the freon removd from my old freezer. My freezer is too small for the DTE program and NOBODY in this entire state knows how to get it removed. How the hell can I do it legally?

I am getting ready to move and have lots of different building supplies I would like to donate, if I can find a place. I have called Habitat for Humanity and I was told they wouldn't pick some of the items up. It would be easier for an organization to come and pick all the things that I have rather then having to take 2 0r 3 loads in my truck. Does anyone have a place in need in the Livingston county area?

For cardboard, we crush it flat and take it to our local grocery store (VGs). Most of the grocery stores have a cardboard recycling bin in the bottle return area.
