I live in gloversville, ny (12078) and our recycling doesn't take aluminum foil, tupperware, pill bottles or styrofoam. I used your green search bar on the website but no listings showed up for styrofoam, I didn't try the other products yet. any one have an idea where I can recycle styrofoam? I'll drive up to an hour to do it, I have quite a bit of it from electronics packaging.

Hey Chantel, Sorry you didn't find listings in your area. Unfortunately, foam recycling is one of the hardest to accomplish because there aren't a lot of programs nationwide. It looks like mail-back programs may be your only option, but that's just the nature of this particular material. Good luck!

@Fran check out http://www.nikereuseashoe.com/ there about a dozen drop-off locations throughout NYS for used sneakers. i called the niagara falls store, which happens to be closest to where i live, and they said they take up to 30 pairs at a time (any brand, shoelaces on OK), and/or will work with community groups for larger donations.

In a very delayed response to A Doyle and anyone else in the Rochester NY area: Lori’s Natural Foods on Jefferson Road in Henrietta has a bin to deposit used batteries and used printer cartridges (ink jet and laser). The staff sorts them and makes sure they get to a proper place for recycling. Also on the premises is a large donation bin for used clothing, belts, and purses. The proceeds received benefit All4Pets NY, and the items are distributed to needy people – EVERYBODY WINS!
