It really should be easier to find information on the web about disposal of fourescant bulbs when we are going to be required to use them excusively. Recycling information in Houston overall has been very sparse. Just because Texas has alot of land doesn't mean we shouldn't take care of it!

I need to find a center in the greater Houston area for dumping all my hazardous household wastes. I have totally stopped using market-bought cleaners and pesticides and regular voc paints. I have several half-full bottles and containers that I need to dispose off. The Westpark Recycling center does not take them.

Recycling for the purpose of “green” is well and good, and I fully agree with the concept.
However; It is impossible to find a place within a reasonable travel distance that will “accept” recycle items, such as plastic, glass or tires, even paper, without charging you a fee for taking it off your hands.
Charging a fee to accept recyclable items actually defeats any attempt to “go for green,” because the average person will opt to merely mix their items in with standard garbage that will be taken to the landfill, instead of going through the hassle of separating.
In addition, the “recycler” is actually double-dipping, because the items that they receive are actually “reprocessed” and used for manufactur of new merchandise which is sold to the consumer. They get paid to take it off your hands, then they get paid again when they resale it. Duh!
Buy new tires, the place charges you a disposal fee, collect a bunch of old tires, then sell them for an additional profit to a place that makes “something” out of the old rubber after the metal is stripped from them. In additiion that recycler takes the stripped metal taken from the tires and recycles the metal.
That sounds like triple dip to me.
    Just some thoughts
