You can take clean styrofoam peanuts in garbage bags (clear preferred) to your local pack-and-ship stores. I take mine to Ship-N-Mail‎ 6525 Auburn Drive, Virginia Beach. The ladies there are always grateful to receive them for free.

I have been holding onto a lot of old household cleansers such as Lysol, Mr. Clean, Comet, bleach, etc. and for several months now, have been using homemade earth-friendly methods, or buying from companies I have researched that promise no animal testing or animal ingredients, and are earth-friendly. I want to clear out all of this horrible stuff from my cabinets, but I need to find a place I can take them so that they won’t end up back into the earth. I tried Earth 911, but they could not locate a place in Southside Hampton Roads Virginia (Chesapeake/Suffolk/Portsmouth preferably). Can anyone help me? Thanks! I’ve been meaning to look into this for quite some time. Mette

I think motor oil can be disposed of at your neighborhood auto mechanic shop. I think they are required to take it.

I would like for VA to make supermarkets have the self contained recycling bins to encourage recycling in VA. They have them in OR where you pay a deposit on your recyclable items and then in order to get your money back you have to use one of thes containers and then it prints out a receipt to use on your groceries or you can just get your cash back. I feel more people would recycle if this was done and it was more convinent. I have no idea how to go about getting this done. Any suggestions?

Where can I recycle my old mattress and box spring without paying a fortune to the trash people for an extra pick up (which I’m not sure they would do anyway)? There has to be a way to have some one pick it up, not everyone has a pickup truck at their disposal.
