Earth 911 Offers New “Beach Alert” by E-mail

Phoenix, AZ., August 20, 2003 – Can you imagine getting all the way to the beach only to find a “Closed” sign when you get there? To alleviate this frustration, Earth 911 (www.Earth911.com and 1-800-CLEANUP), now offers an opt-in E-mail “Beach Alert” so you can “Know Before You Go”! This alert provides the public with beach alerts by E-mail about beach closures or advisories as they go into effect. It’s extremely helpful for residents living along the coast who frequent their local beach, as well as those from landlocked states that may be planning a vacation to their favorite coastal destination.

This year, Oceana, an international non-profit organization, estimates there will be 18,000 beach closures, many of which may be due to more states monitoring seawater for contaminants in anticipation of federal regulations that take effect next year. To help the public cope with a possible increase in closure and/or advisory notifications, Earth 911’s Beach Alert enables consumers to sign up for E-mail alerts about closures in many of the biggest beach-destination states – California, Texas, Illinois, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia – by clicking on the “Know Before You Go” pop-up or on the front page at Earth 911 (http://www.Earth911.com). Soon this “opt-in” beach alert will be available for text messaging to PDA’s, cell phones, and other mobile devices.

Don’t be disappointed the next time you go to the beach. “Know Before You Go” – sign up for the E-mail Beach Alert powered by Earth 911 at http://www.Earth911.com!
