I made compost last year using a small metal trash can with a lid and carrying handle...it looks like aluminum but isn't light enough to be just aluminum...i think....now the inside of the pail is a different color(s)....sort of orangy or red.....is it safe to use this compost?

Very interesting material. I especially liked the comments about
"delaying compost's decomposition" rather than speeding it up. Naturally. Good insight .

As to tomato plants. . .I find they decompose after a fashion, but are one of the slower items to become friable. The stalks (and mine always have a lot of stalk!) take a year and more to become small enough to work into the soil. Toxic? I do not know, but the other myths seem to indicate that rhubarb is not a problem. I doubt that tomato plants are bad for the earth. Just a guess, however. I am not a botanist.

My husband is convinced that tomato plants should not be composted because they are toxic. Is this true or myth?
