Live Earth 2007 Reaction

Much has been reported (both good and bad) from the inaugural Live Earth concert series that took place on Saturday. Whichever side of the fence you are one, the amount of conversation generated from the Live Earth campaign will no doubt draw attention to the growing issue of climate change.

According to concert organizers, the 24 hour event that spanned all seven continents reached over two billion people, which should be seen as a success given that the primary goal of the event was to increase awareness of globally concerned citizens about the environment.

Other results from Live Earth 2007 include the Live Earth Pledge, which encouraged attendees and viewers to commit to as many as seven points on behalf of fighting climate change. Those who signed the pledge were featured on the Live Earth website as well as NBC’s coverage of the concerts on Saturday night.

In addition, the Live Earth website is currently listing more than 10,000 “Friends of Live Earth” events in 129 countries, ranging from fundraisers to recycling pick-ups to meditation sessions.

Although no plans have yet been announced for a Live Earth 2008, the concerts were just the beginning of a three-year worldwide campaign by former Vice President and “An Inconvenient Truth” star Al Gore to inform citizens about the effects of climate change.

Earth 911 is proud to be a part of the continued Live Earth campaign by promoting actionable content to the Live Earth resource page.
