Live Earth Beneficiary Hopes to Use Money to Further Raise Climate Change Awareness
While it may not have been readily advertised, believe it or not, there is a beneficiary of the probable millions of dollars raised by the Live Earth concerts, which took place July 7 in nine different locations across the world. The Alliance for Climate Protection, chaired by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, will receive the money made from the concert as well as the official Live Earth book, The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook. The amount the concerts raised has not yet been released; however it will most likely be substantial, considering some of the tickets for the London concert were going for more than 500 U.S. dollars.
The Alliance for Climate Protection, www.climateprotect.org, is a member of Save Our Selves, the group, founded by Kevin Wall and backed by Gore, that organized the Live Earth concerts. The concerts, which were held in order to “bring together more than 100 music artists and 2 billion people to trigger a global movement to solve the climate crisis,” according to the official Live Earth Web site, were dispersed using all media platforms, including Internet and wireless channels. According to the Associated Press, the event organizers were hoping broadcasts of the concerts on cable TV and the Internet would reach up to 2 billion people.
The Alliance provides information on global warming, its effects and how to put a stop to it on its Web site, as well as encouraging stories of others who have already gone the “green” distance in one way or another. The Alliance also encourages visitors to its site to make a pledge to reduce their carbon footprints and to donate money to The Alliance, so the company can continue to educate others on the effects of global warming and how to prevent it.
