Crocodile Hunter Honored with Wildlife Reserve

The Environmental News Network reports that Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who was killed last year in a stingray attack, will be memorialized with a wildlife reserve in Australia. The reserve will span 333,585 acres in Queensland and be managed by Irwin’s family.

“The area includes habitats for the endangered northern quoll, a carnivorous marsupial, and the speartooth shark, as well as an important gallery of dry vine forests, Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull said.”

It seems like not a lot of attention was paid to Irwin’s efforts saving animals until he died, with more of the focus going to his accent and jovial personality on-screen. Irwin spent part of his TV show’s earnings on animal conservation projects, and this wildlife reserve should continue that legacy.
