Bristol to Recycle 2 Million Bottles a Month

The eGov monitor reports that the town of Bristol is now up to 38 plastic bottle recycling plants, up from just seven in April 2004. Because all bottles must be recycled at a plant, the increase of plants has allowed residents to recycled as many as 2 million bottles per month.
“The city council’s contractor is now collecting an average of 75 tonnes of plastic bottles each month. Every tonne equates to 25,000 compacted plastic bottles adding up to a total of 1,875,000 plastic bottles. That’s nearly 24 million plastic bottles recycled in one year!”
Bristol only has a population of 400,000, putting it on par with U.S. cities like Omaha, Nebraska and Miami, Florida. This breaks down to just under five recycled bottles per person, or about one per week. Check out the complete list of Bristol recycling facilities.
