Technology the Focus of Bush Climate Change Conference

Environmental News Service writes that United States President George W. Bush will hold a climate change conference in late September with guests including 15 nations, the European Union and the United Nations. The conference will focus on using technology to address the growing issue as opposed to imposing carbon emissions goals.

“Bush has designated Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice to host the conference, which he told invitees is the first of a series of meetings throughout 2008 ‘to further refine our plans and accelerate our progress on this important challenge.’ “

Climate change conferences are becoming the soup du jour of the environmental menu, with the Western Climate Initiative and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation putting the issue at the top of their recent agendas. The United Nations will also have a climate conference in Indonesia in December.
