The Green Way Packers
He Says: I was up to the challenge of moving as greenly as possible. I did want to throw a few things away, but I wasn’t as bad as Sheila who wanted to give everything away. Some of my prize movie cut outs, my collection of Goose Bumps books and my indefinite supply of picture frames were given away on Freecycle.
It was nice to give stuff away to people who wanted it. I was concerned that we would be giving it to people who were looking for things to resell, which raise some concerns about who was coming over to our house to pick these things up. But everyone seemed real nice and were grateful that we had let them have our stuff.
As far as packing went, we visited all the usual places to round up spare boxes. We “borrowed” milk crates from our local grocery store with the intention of returning them to the back of the store after we get moved. Milk crates are great for packing books; they stack nicely and are nearly indestructible.
We even used Freecycle to get some newspapers from a lady in Phoenix. We took two pickup truck loads of stuff to Goodwill, which helps put people to work, and gives a whole community of people the chance to reuse a lot of household items that my have been thrown away.
Sheila Bocchine and Gary Millard are both Phoenix photographers.
