“Sharkwater” Debuts September 28 in Florida

Garnering 20 awards at film festivals around the world, filmmaker Rob Stewart’s epic journey Sharkwater, which puts him on the front lines to save the planet, will be debuting in Florida on September 28 with a November 2 nationwide release date.

In this true-life action adventure Stewart travels to the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Guatemala. Part biologist, part investigative reporter, he follows the trail of the multi-billion dollar shark fin trade and sets off a chain of events that has to be seen to be believed.

What Stewart discovered was the wholesale slaughter of shark populations around the world—some 100 million each year. The effect this is having on the ocean’s ecosystem and ultimately our planet became his passion and stopping this assault on our planet became his mission. What he doesn’t anticipate becomes the adventure of a lifetime involving espionage, corrupt governments, mafia rings, his arrest and a glimpse at his own mortality.

In an effort to protect sharks, Stewart teams up with renegade conservationist Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Their unbelievable adventure starts with a battle between the Sea Shepherd and shark poachers in Guatemala, resulting in a dramatic confrontation with a pirate Guatemalan fishing boat, a gunboat chase, corrupt court systems and attempted murder charges, forcing them to flee for their lives.

Filmed in 15 countries in visually stunning, high definition video, Sharkwater takes you into the most shark-rich waters of the world, exposing the exploitation and corruption surrounding the world’s shark populations. But what one comes away with is a story about the beauty of life on Earth and our role in protecting its amazing balance.
