What Can I Do With Dry Cleaning Accessories?

Dry cleaner hangers made of wire are not recyclable, so here is where reuse comes into play. The good news is that there are plenty of options for using these wires so they don’t end up in landfills.

The easy option is to return them to the dry cleaner for reuse with a different customer. However, you can also use the wire for art projects, such as bending one into a circle, adding leaves and creating a holiday wreath.

Dry cleaner bags fall into the same category where it is better to reuse than attempt to recycle. The slippery plastic from these bags serves as a good defense for wrinkles when you are traveling, so using them can help you avoid ironing your clothes on a business trip.

Why not use the wire hangers to transport your cast-off clothing to Goodwill or Salvation Army?

The plastic bags used over the clothing in drycleaning can be used by potters or ceramic artists; it helps keeps projects from drying out if the artist needs to set the item aside for a day or so. Ask local colleges, studios or artists if they could reuse your supply rather than having to purchase or ask for donations from local dry cleaners.
Also, my son made a project at schoool; the class made wreaths using drycleaning wire hangers and the used dry cleaning plastic- since we dont do much dry cleaning, other students helped supply him. This wreath is now going on four years of front door service- it stores well and any frayed plastic ends can be trimmed easily; this year we may need to add some holiday rick rack to replace some pieces that have flown off.
    Just a couple of idea.

Why is the wire in dry cleaning hangers not recyclable? Isn’t it just steel?

Also, wire coat hangers work well as braising rod for oxy-acetylene gas welding… Life on a farm.

The wire hangers are recycled in other countries but not in US. Why? because we just don’t have the program. No one is bothering with it. We figure it is cheaper to import the hangers from China than to recycle. We need to voice our opinions and tell city governments to start steel recycling program.
