Snowbowl’s Bid to Recycle Sewage Revived

AZ Central reports that the Snowbowl Ski Resort in Arizona is on the verge of shutting down operations if it is not allowed to use recycled sewage as a substitute for snowfall on the San Francisco Peaks.

Snowbowl is looking to build a 15-mile pipeline that would be able to transport 1.5 million gallons of treated sewage per day up the mountain. The resort needs to cover 205 acres of mountain with artificial snow in time for ski season.

The main objection to this pipeline is from several Indian tribes with nearby land, who rely on the purity of the water from the mountainside and don’t feel that recycled sewage is pure water.

Recycled water, is not pure water. Recycled-pure water comes to us as rain, not from a treatment plant. The simple fact is that the snowbowl is not viable for the weather received there.
