Greenpeace Evaluates Green Electronics

Greenpeace has released the sixth version of its Guide to Greener Electronics, which ranks the top 18 manufacturers of PCs, TVs, cell phones and video game consoles based on the use of hazardous chemicals in their products and availability of recycling take back programs.

Both TVs and video game consoles were new additions to this version, which allowed for Nintendo to score the first zero in the history of the program. Nokia also took a slide in this version, as its two previous ratings were above eight and it only ranked 6.7 this time thanks to a penalty deduction for staff negligence about the take back program.

No companies scored higher than an eight, with the top three rankings awarded to Sony Ericsson (7.7), Samsung (7.7) and Sony (7.3). The full report is available here.
