Oscar the Grouch to Keep Lights Out of Trash

California’s Take It Back! (TIB!) Partnership, designed to keep used fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) out of the trash, has announced a new “spokesmuppet” beginning in January 2008: Oscar the Grouch.

The TIB! Partnership allows California residents to find locations to recycle household waste such as lights, batteries and electronics so they don’t end up in the trash. Oscar the Grouch will be used to help TIB! Partners promote keeping fluorescent tubes and CFLs out of the trash at first, then later batteries and electronic devices.

For more information on the TIB! Partnership, visit the California Department of Toxic Substances Control Web site. To find nationwide resources for recycling your household waste, use the search locator at the top of this page.
