Spitzer Announces $26 million in Recycling Grants

WCAX reports that New York’s Environmental Protection Fund has awarded state grants for recycling programs to 92 different solid waste management authorities, including $8 million to New York City.

The grants, which total $26 million, were announced by New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. The money will pay for recycling trucks and sorting equipment, while also promoting recycling programs to New York residents.

New York provides 50 percent reimbursement to local governments for recycling program costs, but recently New York City has required residents to use only clear trash bags to promote recycling. For more on the benefits of recycling, visit Earth 911′s Recycling page.
